1) the hero discovers how he is special: either a quality or power
2) the hero is set a task where they travel to unfamiliar territory whether literal or figurative (journey to another world)
3) the hero is given guidance by someone with greater knowledge and wisdom than their self
4) They lose something: powers or something/someone close to him/her
5) Finally the hero is born anew again with a new image and name for him/herself.
that's the most of what i remember. and by chance you wouldn't happen to be reading Lord of the Files by William Golding this year? |
Nope. We just started our unit on myths. We started with the heroes journey. As a matter of fact, we are watching the Star Wars History channel special "A legacy revealed" about how it relates to mythology and whatnot. Its pretty interesting.
Would an archetype be the idea that a Hero is some how attached to his journey? EX- Harry is the "Chosen One", Luke Skywalker is also "the Chosen one", etc.
