I'm going to assume you mean 3y-20+4y+4=180 and that those are consecutive interior angles.
I'll walk through this...
Since you want to combine like terms, you will have 7y-16=180
You will add 16 to both sides to get the variable by itself, ending up with 7y=196
Divide both sides by 7, and you get y=28.
