For numbers 1-3 it asks for mean, median, and mode. Mean is the average. You add up all the numbers and divide by the number of numbers you have. Example: The mean of 3, 10, 5 is (3+10+5)/3 = 6.
Median is the middle number WHEN they are in order. So order the previous example of 3, 10, 5 to 3, 5, 10. The middle number is obviously 5. However, when you have an even list, then the middle number is the middle in between the two middles (confusing but look at example) : 2, 8, 14, 19.
The two middle numbers are 8 and 14. What number is in the middle of those two? (8+14)/2 = 11. Or without the math, just know that 11 is in the middle of 8 and 14 just by looking at it. Mode is the number or numbers that occur the most often. Like in the list... 3, 1, 3, 2, 6, 8. The mode would be 3 because that occurs the most (2 times while the others only occur once each). You can have more than 1 mode if they are tied for the most frequent. Number 4. Think. The problem says the average of the 4 scores is 90 which is the mean (and it also tells you that later in the problem but you should know that mean and average are the same exact thing). So its saying that 85 plus 90 plus 89 plus an unknown number all divided by 4 equals 90 or in math terms : (85+90+89+fourthtest)/4 = 90. Simple algebra. Check it of course when you get your answer and it should make sense (i.e. be a possible score on a test and simply by looking at the other 3 numbers I can tell it has to be greater than 90).
5. Same thing with mean, median, and mode. Just remember, for median you have to put them in order.
6. Read the graph. Easiest problems that you can ever hope for.
7. A symmetric histrogram goes from small to bigger than back to smaller (it looks symmetric - google it if you don't get it)
Example where | is the peak
.....|.....
5 on each side of the peak is symmetric.
Skewed left means that the "tail" is more on the left like (| is the peak)
..................|...
Skewed right
..|.............
8. frequency means the number of occurences. its basically asking how many tallies are there for that height? Example - answer for a would be 10.
9. covered this
10. covered this
11/12. its asking if you're smarter than a monkey... i.e. can you read a graph?
13. easy...
If you need any help besides all this or more in detail just ask but be more specific than ask for "how to do number...". Also, I wouldn't mind checking your answers as opposed to giving them to you. |
