I don't know what to say about the French girl, but if you really like your ex as much as you say you do then you will keep trying to be with her.
oh and yeah I kinda wish I wasn't a freshman, so much fucken stupid pointless drama around, and I have a lot of upperclassmen friends and it seems like theres a lot less drama going on with them, but then again sometimes theres more......
