Force yourself to be more creative. You'll be more surprised, I think. I've always pushed myself to be creative, but not forcing it out, and at the same time I've started to use words that aren't used often and are more exact to feelings that I'm feeling. Use a dictionary, use a thesaurus, use your brain. Expand your vocabulary. It works wonders.
And this is just my advice, but stay away from cliches unless you're doing something with it. For example, this is from something I did.
