Do words like "simile, analogy, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and personification" ring a bell? These are called rhetoric devices that you use in writing to create emphasis, set a tone, or a play on words.

These will be very important in constructing a good paper, and will earn good points for using such advanced techniques.

Be careful not to overdo them. It's not necessary to have every sentence, or even every other sentence, possess rhetoric.

Ah, we went over these last year in my Humanities III class, but only for a short time.

I usually use only a set amount of these words, but with this list, my papers should get even better.

Your rhetoric is poor, like a bum with no sign.

Being able to recognize and use these kinds of writing tools will not only make reading a whole lot easier, but your writing will become more fluent and refined.
