See if you can solve this.
The host of a party turned to a guest and said, "I hae three daughters and I will tell you how old they are. The product of their age is 72. The sum of their ages is my house number. How old is each?" The guest rushed to the door and looked at the house number, then informed the host that he needed more information, The host then added, "The oldest likes chocolate pudding." The guest then announced the ages of the three girls. What are the ages of the three daughters? (all ages are whole numbers"
explain it too dont just guess for the sack of post count. |

No, you do not. That is what makes it challenging. If I gave it to you it would be way to easy. |

1,2,36
1,3,24
1,4,18
1,6,12
1,8,9
2,2,18
2,3,12
2,4,9
2,6,6
3,3,8
3,4,6
Those are all the possibilities of 3 numbers whose product is 72 (I think). If they needed more info in addition to the house number, that means that at least two of those sets must add to the same sum. 2+6+6=14. 3+3+8=14. The man said that he has an oldest daughter, so that eliminates twins from being the oldest. So the answer is 3,3,8. |
