Just so you know, you meant to say U-238, not 39.
Sorry for the late reply, but yes I do know how the bomb works. It's actually a fairly simple effect, although based upon quantum mechanics, so if you have not yet studied quantum mechanics, it may be difficult to understand.
Basically, Uranium, being the incredibly heavy atom that is, is readily able to break apart given a certain amount of energy. The way it works is that there is a small fuel source, and a source of uranium. The uranium is surrounded by a protective material. The first fuel source ignites and explodes, releasing a rush of VERY hot photons into the interior of the bomb. Of course, the speed of light being MUCH MUCH faster than the initial explosion, the photons are able to melt through the protective lining surrounding the uranium. Once the uranium is released, it beings to fiss at an extremely high rate, causing the extreme explosion of the bomb.
Also, the difference between U-238 and U-235 is where the quantum mechanics comes in. Simply by a purely quantum mechanical effect, U-235 requires essentially zero energy to undergo fission, whereas U-238 requires roughly 1 MeV of initial energy in order to undergo fission. (this has to do with the fact that the addition of neutrons causes the isotopes to change, but as I said before only quantum mechanics is responsible for the change in energy necessary)
Edit: Also worth noting...it is very difficult to isolate U-235 because it makes up less than a tenth of a percent of all naturally occurring Uranium (due to much shorter half life). So, while U-235 is much easier to cause explosion, U-238 is much easier to make a bomb out of. |

Go look at it again, it says Uranium-235 and Plutonium-239.

Hello I am looking to make a nuclear bomb and I hear that there are friendly soviets on here. Can you point me in the direction of soviet plans forum? |

Hint:
the original atomic bombs dropped on Japan used nuclear fission,
the hydrogen bomb uses nuclear fusion which is a stronger type of explosion
You may want to research the differences between the two.
Rant:
It's pretty crazy how humans have the capability to completely destroy the world. No other species is anywhere close to this power. Go Us!
