| AP Stat Summer Assignment Help :
08-22-2007
Well, I'm doing my summer assignment now and I'm stuck on a problem. Lets see if anyone can help me out.
There is a table with one row labeled Hrs Studied and goes from 1-12. The next row is labeled Grade and goes 42, 66, 70, 66, 78, 86, 88, 92, 94, 102, 99, 99. Then the question says "Find the line that best represents the correlation of grades to hours studied (using linear regression)." It tells me to enter the data into the calculator and state the equation in slope-intercept form, but I dont know how to do that.
Could someone tell me the steps to figure this out. I have a TI-83 plus btw.
Thanks. |

Thanks. | Ok. First, press the STAT button, located right underneath the delete button, second from top. Then select Edit..., then fill the L1 column with all of the hours, listed 1-12, and then fill the L2 column with the corresponding scores. After making sure you filled it out correctly, press 2nd-Quit, and click on the STAT key again. Press over on the keypad to CALC, and go down to LinReg (ax+b). Press enter twice, and it will calculate what you need. The answer is: y=4.657x + 51.561 (depending on what she wants you to round to).
There ya go, hope that helps.

Well, theres a couple parts to this problem and I need help again. It says What would you expect the grade to be if the student didnt study at all, and what would it be if he studied 20 hrs. Is there a matmatical way to solve this or is it just logic?
